About Diabetes Australia NSW

Diabetes Australia-NSW is the third oldest diabetes organisation in the world and one of the largest member based groups in Australia with more than 53,000 members. The federation includes health professional and research supporting arms for all ages and circumstances. Diabetes Australia-NSW has existed since 1937 and is a non-profit charity, with funds going towards research, education, public awareness and advocacy.

Vision and Mission

Their Mission: To help people by working to reduce the impact of diabetes on their lives.

They achieve this by:

Collecting financial support and community donations. Funds are spent on research, education programs, public campaigns and more.
Raising and promoting Awareness
Supporting professional Health Research

Programs and Services

Programs and services provided include:

Administration of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) - This Scheme provides subsidised products to Australians who have diabetes. Registration entitles you to receive essential products at subsidised prices, and syringes and pen needles are provided free of charge.
Diabetes Australia Research Trust (DART) - There is no cure for either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, which means hope relies on research. Diabetes Australia-NSW supports research through DART, providing $4 million in grants for some 60 new and continuing diabetes research projects this year.
Diabetes Call Centre - They provide personalised and practical health and education assistance to benefit people with diabetes and their carers. The Call Centre in NSW receives more than 600 telephone calls a day.
Teenagers and Children with Diabetes - Diabetes Australia-NSW offers many opportunities for children such as special publications, camps and events including Diabetes Buzz day and the Great Australian Bite.
Information on Diabetes - Free information and resources available online for students, patients, professionals, allied health, indigenous australians and much more.
