Parasympathetic Nervous System
The parasympathetic nervous system is one of the two divisions of the autonomic nervous system (the other being the sympathetic nervous system). It functions to regulate involuntary movement and triggers opposite responses to the sympathetic nervous system. For example, the sympathetic nervous system is responsible for increasing the heart rate during exertion, whereas the parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for decreasing the heart rate during rest. |
