Cerebral Cortex
The cerebral cortex is a section of the brain responsible for many information processing functions. It is often also referred to as the brain's grey matter. It is located on the surface of the cerebral hemispheres of the brain and is highly convoluted and folded. This allows a large surface area to fit inside the confined space of the skull. The cerebrum is responsible for complex information processing tasks, including processing multisensory information (e.g. sight, smell and touch information), problem solving and language comprehension. It also initiates voluntary movements.
