An Allergy is a condition in which the body has an exaggerated and inappropriate immune response to a substance (eg food or medicine).
Allergic reactions are due to the production of antibodies by the body's immune system against specific substances which are normally harmless to the majority of people. (allergens, e.g. pollen, dust mites, animal dander).
