Indication of Betaloc:Oral metoprolol is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and as prophylaxis for migraines.Intravenous therapy: Metoprolol can be given intravenously to treat abnormal heart rhythms.
Action of Betaloc:Metoprolol acts on beta-adrenoreceptors present in the heart slowing the heart rate and decreasing the amount of work the heart has to do. It reduces blood pressure, reduces the frequency of angina attacks and has also been shown to reduce mortality in patients who have had a myocardial infarction by mechanisms that are not completely understood. In patients with abnormal heart rhythms, metoprolol has a regulating effect on the heart rate. Metoprolol has been shown to exert a prophylactic effect in both classical and common migraine.
