Action of Avapro:

Avapro consists of an active ingredient known as irbesartan, which belong to a group of medicines known as Angiotensin II receptor blockers. Angiotensin II is a substance produced in the body and is responsible for constricting the blood vessels. In doing so, it changes the normal blood flow through these vessels and results in an increase in the blood pressure.

The action of Avapro is to inhibit binding of Angiotensin II to Angiotensin II receptors. Thereby, reducing the constriction of blood vessels and improving blood flow through these vessels. As a result of these mechanisms Avapro is used to reduce and help to maintain a normal blood pressure.

Dose Advice of Avapro:

Avapro is available in strengths of 75, 150 and 300mg tablets. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose for your condition and how many tablets you need to take daily.

The usual starting dose is one 150mg Avapro tablet once a day with or without food. However some patients may require a lower dose of 75mg.

The full blood pressure lowering effect of Avapro should be reached within 4-6 weeks. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure regularly and depending on your response, adjust the Avapro dose accordingly.
