Indication of Depo Medrol:

Depo-Medrol is an anti-inflammatory drug, which may be given as an injection into muscle, joints, tissues or a specific lesion.

Injection of Depo-Medrol into the muscle may be used in the following conditions:
  • Patients with adrenal insufficiency
  • High calcium levels caused by cancer
  • Inflammation of the thyroid gland
  • Many types of arthritis including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Lupus
  • Dermatomyositis and polymyositis
  • Many skin conditions including psoriasis and dermatitis
  • Allergies
  • Eye diseases including shingles of the eye
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Tuberculosis
  • Haemolytic anaemia
  • Leukaemia and lymphoma in adults
  • Leukaemia in children
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis

    Injection of Depo-Medrol into the joint may be used in many types of arthritis including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and arthritis due to gout.

    Injection of Depo-Medrol into certain lesion may be used in many diseases of the skin.

    Action of Depo Medrol:

    Corticosteroids alter genes within the body's cells to reduce the body's normal inflammation and immune responses.

    Dose Advice of Depo Medrol:

    Injection into joints:
  • For a small joint, for example in the hand use 4-10 mg
  • For a medium sized joint, for example the wrist use 10-40 mg
  • For a large joint, for example in the knee use 20-80 mg.

    The doses of injections into muscle and lesion will vary depending on the condition being treated.
