Used to replace pancreatic enzymes in patients who have insufficient amounts due to a number of reasons:- cystic fibrosis- chronic pancreatitis- after having pancreas removed- gastrointestinal bypass surgery- obstruction of the pancreatic duct.Action of Creon 5000/10000 & Forte:
The body requires enzymes released by the pancreas in order to properly digest foods. Creon 5000, Creon 10000 and Creon Forte replace these enzymes in the duodenum, the place they would usually be released, and normal digestion can take place. Proper digestion is important to ensure the body receives all the nutrients contained in food.Dose advice of Creon 5000/10000 & Forte:
Due to the nature of the diseases that may result in pancreatic enzyme deficiency, each patient is different and doses must be titrated individually. Some guidelines:Adults, elderly and children (excluding CF)- initially one Creon 5000, Creon 10000 or Creon Forte with each meal- add doses slowly and with adequate hydration (100ml water with each dose)- regular review and ultrasound should be performed on all patients requiring increasing dosesInfants and children with CF- lipase 1500 to 6000 BP units/kg/meal- maximum recommended dose of lipase is 20000 BP units/kg/daySchedule of Creon 5000/10000 & Forte:
